The 7th edition of the Smart Cities International Conference – Shaping the cities of Tomorrow will take place in Bucharest, Romania, on December 5-6, 2019. The conference is based on the traditions and success of the e-government, social innovation, urbanism and administrative dimension of a smart city. The Smart Cities Conference is an initiative dedicated to open, inclusive, formal and informal dialogue on Smart Cities issues among all interested stakeholders. It was built from the organizers’ desire to put into an academic debate different aspects of Romanian cities’ life, but also of the cities outside the country’s borders, through multidisciplinary scientific approaches that will talk about the past, present and future, starting from: acceptance of democracy as the most efficient tool of governance and also acceptance and compliance with the state’s rules.
The participation invitation is addressed to specialists and researchers from all domains of social and humanist disciplines, from political science, communication, legal science, medical science, European integration studies, sociology, to architecture, economy, computer science, cybernetics and many others. It brings together representatives of governments, intergovernmental organisations, private sector, technical community, academia and civil society, with the aim to facilitate multistakeholder discussions, exchanges and collaboration on Smart Cities related issues.
Smart Cities Conference objectives:
- Raise awareness and promote a better understanding of the Smart Cities concept among stakeholders
- Build and strengthen the capacity of these stakeholders to actively participate in national, regional and international Smart Cities developing process
- Facilitate multistakeholder discussions, exchanges and collaboration on Smart Cities related issues that are of particular concern for stakeholders
- Contribute to creating linkages between the Smart Cities realities at the national, European and international level

ITS Romania Congress 2019 took place in Timisoara from May 16-17 and was organised by ITS Romania and hosted by University “POLITEHNICA” Timisoara under the patronage of Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Congress showcased ITS systems and services for all transport modes involving a wide range of stakeholders. The event provided a platform for the valuable and attractive ITS market in Romania.
The ITS Romania Congress 2019 successfully brought together more than 100 participants from more than 10 countries, with technical visits at Timisoara Traffic Management Centre, as well as a series of associated events and exhibition sessions.
The official Opening Ceremony of the ITS Romania Congress took place in the presence of conf.dr.ing. Eugen Ghita - Politehnica University Timișoara, Ovidiu Marcel Sîrbu - State Secretary of Ministry of Transport, Claire Depre - Head of Unit ITS of DG MOVE, Nicolae Robu - Mayor of Timisoara and Dorin Dumitrescu - President of ITS Romania.
Some of the most covered topics included Digital transport infrastructure – present and future. International cooperation and deployment were also an important aspect of the Congress programme.

The 14th ITS European Congress will take place in Lisbon from 18 – 20 May 2020 and will explore all the ways which ITS is changing mobility – and lives!
The Congress is suitably themed “ITS: The Game Changer”. We are reaching a time where the maturity, scope and interconnection of Smart Mobility Systems is prompting companies to change the way they collect, manage and integrate data. This forms the basis for new solutions that enable the movement of people and goods. The technology is there, but it is time to focus on, and discuss, the big picture!
The Congress will host various sessions with top mobility experts speaking about key topics in the transport industry today. The event presents a strategic opportunity for all mobility stakeholders to come together, share knowledge, exchange best practices and make the necessary contacts to develop their businesses.
